* The teachers really do care about the children and that is very evident in how much the children love the school.
I can see a difference in my grand daughters vocabulary, patience and sharing since she has started at Spring Hill Day School. Her "Papa" and I are very pleased with her progress!
Now comes the bad feedback. I really do not like leaving negative feedback, especially for a school, but as a person who has worked in education for 12+ years, as well as having a corporate family business for 30+ years, I feel parents need to know both the good and the bad:
* They do not communicate teacher changes. When my son started, he was constantly moved around and with different teachers.I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they were just starting their younger toddler program, but when I picked him up one day, he had tears streaming down his face and no one could tell me why. When I walked into the school the next day and talked to his teacher, she told me that he became very upset when she had to leave (to go sub for another room) and he was taken to the older classroom. When my husband and I heard this, we were to the point where we were about to pull him out. Thankfully, things calmed down for a couple of months, but at the very end of our time, we noticed a new teacher in his classroom. This was never communicated to the parents; there was no "Ms. X is going to be one of your child's new teachers".
* They offered us a great deal of flexibility in our final month with the school, as we moved out of state. This was greatly appreciated because moving is very stressful and their help definitely alleviated some of the stress. They allowed our son to come 5 days, as opposed to 3 days (and we paid the additional fees).
* The building and classrooms are beautiful. The classrooms feel and look more welcoming than your traditional classroom. The teachers do a phenomenal job to put their personal touches on the rooms, which really allow the rooms to feel much more comfortable and inviting for the children.
* They had VERY high turnover, at least in their Pre-K room. My daughter started with the Day School in September. Her teacher (who she LOVED) left in December, a new teacher started in January, was abruptly fired on a Saturday in February (with Shari sending out the most unprofessional email I've ever read, to the parents of the Pre-K students stating that this teacher had been fired without justification), and then this same teacher was rehired the next day and back in the classroom on that Monday (with absolutely NO explanation of what just happened). To continue with this awkward behavior, this teacher was only there for a week and then mysteriously had the flu the following week, broke her back the next week, and never returned to the school. My daughter was devastated. While a majority of this blame should be placed on the teacher for such behavior, Shari's handling of this was absolutely abysmal and she directly lost business because of it. She never brought all of the parents together to discuss the issue, hear our concerns and questions, and to calm our nerves. When parents removed their children from the Day School after this fiasco, she didn't even reach out to them to see if she could make any improvements to bring those children back.
Our son has blossomed here and we are so excited to see his speech and vocabulary expanding by leaps and bounds! He loves going to school each day. The teachers are amazing and co-owners Andrea & Shari genuinely care for each of their students. A++!!
Clean classroom environments and nice size rooms. The staff is remarkable and very caring. They have excellent music and art programs taught by professionals. The outdoor play area is shared by all of the classes at different times.
The good:
We set out to find the nothing but the best for our daughter. I am pleased to say we have found it. We are very satisfied with Spring Hill Day School. Our daughter has improved in her independence. She was becoming a bit bored at home and now seems to be much more cheerful since starting this program and venturing new things. The staff has been kind and I am pleased with my daughters new teachers who are friendly and very patient with her as she learns and grows. Thank you Spring Hill Day School for helping our family.
* When we started attending, they allowed my daughter to attend free for nearly one week, with no obligation. They also waived our registration fee, since we were referred to the school by several friends. It was truly a great start to the school and my daughter really enjoyed it, but most importantly, she was thriving.
* When my son started attending, they were wonderful and sent me pictures of him during the day for his first few weeks in school. That was much appreciated because, as any new mom knows, it's extremely difficult to leave your baby for the first time. I was always thrilled to get those pictures.
* Shari, the owner, is incredibly difficult to work with. I know many of the parents outside of the school and we all had the same complaints about her. She has a tendency to be defensive, snappy, and rude. She bad-mouths the parents, as I've heard from multiple teachers and many parents.
